Our future is bright in Dromore
Solar PV company Alternative Energy has recently opened the doors to our brand-new office, located in the heart of Dromore, Co. Tyrone. Celebrating 15 years in the solar PV industry in Ireland in 2026, the investment marks a significant company milestone. We’ve undertaken a massive rebuild project to completely transform the existing structure, known locally as Bethel Hall.
Building sustainability and efficiency were key priorities throughout the project, with the aim to produce a building with low running costs and minimised environmental impacts.
Director, Ronan Dolan said: “We worked with local suppliers and companies in Dromore to keep as much investment as possible in the town. We’ve even been using the local barber.
“We wanted to keep the environmental impact of the building as low as possible throughout construction so we’ve used local suppliers where we can. We became very good friends with the staff in Kenwell’s and McDermott’s especially!”
Co-director, Jerome Carlin added: “As solar PV installers, we have kitted the building out with a full solar system with battery storage and an automatic changeover switch. That means that if the power goes out, the office will be isolated from the main grid and can continue operating. Our heating, cooling, hot water and ventilation systems are electrical so we have no need for gas or oil boilers; it’s all powered from the solar PV. Even in mid-December, we’re still generating enough on the clear days to cover the building load.”
Over the course of the next 25 years, Alternative Energy expects to offset tonnes of carbon, not to mention the lower operating costs for the office. Jerome Carlin added: “As well as the PV system, we invested heavily in energy efficient lighting and insulation, all of which has combined to deliver a more sustainable building. We’ve also installed EV Chargers to future proof the infrastructure should our staff or visitors need a quick charge.”
