How Can My Business or Home Benefit From Solar PV Panel Installation?

You can expect a number of benefits when you choose to install a Solar PV System for your business or agricultural premises. We have listed the major benefits of Solar Panel installation below:

  • You are able to power your premises or property with solar power. This is one of the greenest energy sources on the planet which reduces your environmental impact and allows you to save money on energy bills. By generating your own power.
  • You are able to become less dependent on the national grid or other power suppliers. It’s unlikely that you are able to power an entire business or agricultural operation solely from solar power but this depends on the size of your property as well as the number of solar panels you are able to install and the amount of power you use per year.
  • There are grants available which allow you to offset the financial risk or investment of installing solar panels. Solar panels are also a lot more affordable than in the past which is a key factor in why they are becoming more and more popular!

Solar FAQs

Solar panels use PV cells to convert sunlight into electricity. This is achieved with semiconductor materials such as silicon, which creates a charge from the photons (light particles.) This generates DC electricity, which can then be used to charge the battery system or is converted by the inverter to AC for use in the property. As the only byproduct of the reaction is heat, this is the cleanest source of electricity currently available.

The main benefit of solar panel installation is that you are able to make significant savings on your energy bills over time. Depending on the orientation and size of your solar panel system, you can expect to see your solar panels make a return on your investment in around 8 to 12 years. Commercial systems with large roof spaces can significantly reduce the time taken to make a return on your investment. Your inverter will typically require replacement every 10 years, and this is a good time to assess the latest solar PV technology and whether you need an upgrade to keep your system running as efficiently as possible.

Solar panels cannot be installed on north-facing roofs as they won’t be efficient enough to justify the installation. They are best suited for south-facing roofs but can also be installed on east- and west-facing roofs where required. Obstructions on the roof may make it unsuitable for solar panel installation, and flat roofs can support solar panels as long as they have no obstructions.

In Northern Ireland, there are business grants available to help offset the initial investment of installing solar panels on your commercial property. This is designed to help businesses install solar panels and then gain all of the benefits whilst reducing the initial costs of installation.

There are, unfortunately, currently no grants available for domestic solar panel installation. Solar panels are however becoming more and more affordable and are a great way to reduce your electric bills at home.

Solar panels require little to no maintenance after they are installed. If you experience any issues after your original installation has taken place, then this is likely due to issues during installation. In some cases, birds and the weather can damage solar panels when they are installed. This is, however, quite rare. Your inverter will require replacement once every 10 years. This is a good opportunity to assess the condition of your solar panels. They get less efficient with age, and new technology may be available.

To maintain your solar panels, you simply need to clean your solar panels with a cloth and regular cleaning solution. If you do not have safe access to your roof, then it’s highly important to arrange for professional maintenance and cleaning.
